London Playwrights Zoom Workshop: Advanced Directing Masterclass with Russell Lucas

In this one-off online masterclass with director Russell Lucas, delegates will take a deep dive into the relationship between the director and the actor and the playwright. Using his decades of experience staging plays, musicals and cabaret, Lucas will take you through the fundamentals on how to bring your production to fruition, whilst maintaining calm waters.

Choosing a play

Casting correctly

The first, second and third days of rehearsals

Working with and sometimes saving an actor

Your position in the plays life force in relation to the playwright’s

When to intervene and when to back off

The last week of rehearsals

Remembering the play

Russell will share his thoughts on what plays work in specific settings, how to stay focused when casting, his techniques in the first few days of rehearsals, how he navigates the actor’s spirit, the directors autonomy, and how to stay focused on the play itself when you are surrounded by so many pressures.
