Middle Child are seeking applications from playwrights, with a meaningful connection to Hull, for one of seven paid commissions to write a new play for Fresh Ink: Hull Playwriting Festival 2025.
They have commissions available for brand-new, emerging and established playwrights, including:
- Two 70-minute commissions, for playwrights who have had at least one 30-minute play professionally produced. Fee: £4,582
- Two 30-minute commissions, for playwrights who have not yet had a play of at least 30-minutes professionally produced. Fee: £2,292
- Three five-minute monologue commissions, for playwrights who have not yet had a play of at least 30-minutes professionally produced. Fee: £500
Selected writers will work with Middle Child to develop two drafts of an original idea, to be performed script-in-hand by professional actors at next year’s festival in Hull.
Application is via an online form, with a number of questions to complete about yourself, your idea and your link to Hull. You will also be asked to share a short example of your writing.
Applications close at 12pm midday on Tuesday 10 September.
