New Work At The Ritzy 2024

It’s officially time for another round of New Work at the Ritzy, a scratch night taking place at the fabulous Ritzy Cinema in Brixton! This month’s edition is happening Thursday, May 16th; doors at 7pm, performance starts at 7:30 with Q&A to follow.

The theme for this round is: rule breakers. What does that mean? Whatever you like! Break the rules of the form you’re playing in, write a piece inspired by an act of insubordination, pay homage to iconoclasts of days gone by.

The only (real) rule: each piece should be capped at ~10 minutes, in order to maximize everyone’s time. That doesn’t necessarily correspond to a page count, so use your best judgment!

The pieces will be performed in an informal, intimate setting meant to encourage good vibes, helpful feedback, and community engagement. New Work at the Ritzy is open to pretty much any theatrical form: monologues, short plays, performance pieces, devised movement theses – if you’ve got something you’ve been dying to try out, now’s the moment!

All submissions should be sent to ritzyscratchnight@gmail.com by Sunday, May 5th. Participants will be notified by Tuesday, May 7th as to whether or not they’ve been selected for this round.

Please include a brief logline/summary of the piece, as well as a character breakdown to assist with castings.

If you’ve submitted before, please do feel free to submit again – each scratch night is different! Preference will be given to writers based in the South London/Brixton area.

You can find more information on their website or by emailing ritzyscratchnight@gmail.com.

They look forward to reading your submissions!
