Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: IdeasTap presents…Old Vic 12 – open for applications
Description:The Old Vic 12 is an exciting opportunity for 12 emerging artists looking to make the next step in their careers. The scheme will offer them opportunities to expand networks, receive first class mentorship and benefit from the prestigious association with The Old Vic through an attachment to Matthew Warchus’ first season. They are looking for three directors, three playwrights, three producers, plus one designer, composer and choreographer. Applicants should have had one or two plays produced and should be ready for their first commission. From October 2015 till August 2016, the playwrights will be under commission with The Old Vic, with a workshop presentation at the end of the scheme.
So, what’s so great about it? well, we think getting picked to work with, the Old Vic is pretty prestigious. But it doesn’t end there: the chosen 3 writers will get a commissioning fee of £5,000 for a new play, mentoring and dramaturgical support from Old Vic Staff and Associates, an Old Vic 12 Producer and Director who will collaborate to develop the play plus invitations to attend special events, access to rehearsal space and the chance to work with other emerging practitioners. Phew. Over the course of the scheme, you’ll write a full length play and deliver a workshop to around 25 people so this is definitely an opportunity with real prospects to further your career. Applying for this one is actually quite simple too, you’ll need to set up a profile on Hiive (the organisation running this on behalf of the dearly departed IdeasTap) but once you’ve done that, it’s just a matter of uploading your CV and a 3 page sample of your work plus filling out a reasonably simple application form/ pitch. The deadline is on 2 September, what are you waiting for?
