Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Theatre503 – International Playwriting Award 2023
Description: Theatre503 is once more seeking the best new plays and the most talented early career playwrights in the world. They are the home of new writers and the artists who bring their words to life. They stage the work of more debut writers than any other theatre in the world, and are responsible for modern classics including The Mountaintop and Rotterdam.
Why is it so great? The winning playwright will receive the £6,000 Carne Prize including an advance towards a guaranteed production at Theatre503 and publication by Samuel French Ltd, a Concord Theatrical’s company. They also do everything they can to stage the work of our four other finalists, with 70% of their 2018 and 2020 finalists either produced or programmed to date. Their award is an unprecedented one, recognising new and emerging writers for an outstanding original feature length play that makes us see the world anew.
