Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Channel 4 Screenwriting Course accepting applications (from 7 September)
Description: The Channel 4 Screenwriting Course offers 12 writers new to television drama an insight into how the industry works and to provide a “dry-run” of what it can be like to write under a television drama commission, specifically for one hour series and serial drama, and to work with them as they write an original drama script.
What’s so great about it? This course has been running for several years now and is a must for anyone wanting to break into the world of writing television drama.
The course offers professional experience and gives writers the chance to write an original C4 / E4 one-hour drama series or serial pilot episode. Each writer will also be assigned a script editor, who is currently working in the industry, to guide them through this process. Writers will also be paid for participating in the course and writing their scripts.
So, if you want a shot at writing for TV, what have you got to lose? You’ll need to send them a writing sample along with your application form by 28 September – and applications open this Friday 7 September.
