Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Graeae’s Crips with Chips scratch night accepting submissions from deaf and disabled writers
Description: Graeae’s Crips with Chips is a scratch night putting Deaf and disabled writers centre-stage. Every other month, Graeae will be presenting four script-in-hand readings of new work at their award-winning and fully accessible Bradbury Studios in East London. All work will be captioned and will be audio described at a later date.
The next Crips with Chips will take place on Monday 20 April from 7pm. If you identify as Deaf and/or disabled, they would like to invite you to write a 10-20 minute play responding to the topic of ‘eugenics’. Eugenics is the hateful idea that the human race could be ‘improved’ by ‘breeding out’ disease, disabilities and other ‘undesirable’ characteristics.
What’s so great about it? This is a great opportunity for Deaf and disabled writers to have their work performed by esteemed theatre company, Graeae at their fantastic studios. Writers are invited to submit 10-20 minute plays on the theme of eugenics by 28th March.
