Opportunities – Pick of the Week: The People’s Play Award: A Playwriting Competition for Northern Writers

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: The People’s Play Award: A Playwriting Competition for Northern Writers

Description: This Award is for playwrights from the North of England who are yet to have a play performed professionally.  Past winners include Peter Straughan (BAFTA & Oscar-winner for ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’), Carina Rodney (Audible, BBC Radio 4, Live Theatre) and Alison Carr (National Theatre, Finalist: Women’s Prize for Playwriting, BBC Radio 4).

Why is it so great? Here’s one for our Northern playwrights! This is a great competition which gives one winning writer a five-night production by us in the People’s Theatre Studio in June 2023 and a cash prize of £1,000! Apply by 30th September!
