As part of their commitment to discovering and nurturing extraordinary playwrights of the future, the Orange Tree Theatre is recruiting for this year’s Writers Collective to run alongside their main programme of work. They are seeking professional writers at an early stage in their career to join the Collective from October 2016.
The Collective is an opportunity for a group of writers at a similar stage of their development to share skills, techniques and obsessions and to fire up conversations and collaborations. It will be run by the Orange Tree’s Literary Associate Guy Jones, alongside masterclasses from practitioners making work at the theatre. Following a series of masterclasses in October, the writers will meet once a month during the course of the season. Meetings will take place on Thursday evenings. There is no fee for writers invited to participate.
They are looking for original and provocative writers of any age who have had at least one play professionally produced.
What to submit/How to apply: Interested writers should email Juliette Oakshett juliette.oakshett@orangetreetheatre.co.uk, enclosing:
- A covering letter (no more than one page) outlining your reasons for applying
- A sample of your work (one full-length play they feel best represents you as a writer)
- A 200 word-outline of an as yet unwritten play you might want to develop during your time on the Collective
- Your writing CV
If you are a writer who has applied to the Collective in the past you are welcome to apply again. They actively encourage applications from BAME, Deaf and disabled artists.
If you are concerned you may not meet the criteria, you are welcome to phone or email Guy for an informal conversation about the opportunity (guy.jones@orangetreetheatre.co.uk, 020 8940 0141). Writers who have applied in previous years are welcome to apply again.
