Our online book club for plays is back! Join us for our monthly book club where we meet on Zoom to discuss a play and then invite you to submit a short piece in response.
How it works: at the start of each month, we’ll announce a new play which you can then read in your own time. Later in the month, we’ll meet on Zoom to discuss the play with each other. Then, you’ll have a week to write a short monologue or two-hander (no more than 3 pages) in response to the to the play. Selected pieces will be read on episodes of our Playwriting Real-life podcast.
When does it start? We’ll start on the 1st April by reading The Crucible. Then we’ll meet on 24th April on Zoom to discuss the play. You’ll have until 1st May to submit your short piece in response. We’ll also set up an Instagram thread where you can comment on the play if you wish to!
Further details, including submission information will be added on our launch date of 1st April!
What kind of plays will be reading? We’ve decided to focus on plays we think you’ll be able to access easily either for free online, at your local library, or even on streaming platforms. So you don’t need to worry about buying a new play text each month.
Who can take part? Play Club is open to members only, but if you’re not already signed up you can do so here for £3.63 per month. Projects such as Play Club are funded directly by our members so please sign up if you can and support our work! Whilst the Zoom call and submission opportunity is only open to our members, anyone is welcome to read along with us and contribute to discussions on the blog and Instagram.
Come back on 1st April for more details!
