Putney Theatre Company runs a successful new writing scheme with two productions a year. Recent productions have included sell-out studio performances of monologues, duologues, pieces written for a pre-determined set, ten minute shorts and topical media focused drama.
This year, Putney Arts Theatre celebrates its 50th anniversary and the new writing team are looking for scripts for their October production, ‘The Anniversary’.Performance dates are the 14th to 18th October.
Submission details:
Submissions are welcome from Members of Putney Theatre Company and Group64 and from non-members living in the UK, however, if your play is selected you will need to be a fully paid up member of the company (£20 per annum). New writers and those with experience are encouraged but scripts that have already had a professional or amateur performance won’t be accepted – a rehearsed reading is okay.
They are seeking fully formed pieces of drama with a maximum running time of 20 minutes and a maximum cast size of 6 actors. There is no minimum running time or cast size.
Plays can be any genre (comedy, love story, ghost story, social or historical drama etc) but must relate to the theme of anniversary or birthday. While the theme has been inspired by the 50th Anniversary, they are not looking for plays about Putney Arts Theatre.
Pieces that make best dramatic use of the studio space are welcomed: think outside the box in terms of writing for a small but versatile space, with minimal set and prop requirements.
How to Submit: They sometimes have problems opening PDFs, so please send your script as a word document. Please provide a list of characters on the first page and include page numbers. Scripts will be judged anonymously so don’t include any identifying information on your script (this includes headers and footers). Please include a cover sheet with your name, address, email address, phone number and title of your script. Please confirm that your submitted script has not already been performed.
Send your scripts and cover sheet by email to ptcnewwriting@gmail.com.
Deadline: 5pm on Sunday 13th April.
All writers will receive an acknowledgment email and those short-listed will be notified in May 2014.
