Shooting Fish Theatre seeking playwright

Shooting Fish Theatre are looking for an exceptional playwright who can create an inspirational script with themes of identity, spiritual development, world religions, and cultural views, particularly focusing on Christianity and Islam.

The script will investigate some of the cultural and religious tensions arising in today’s social and political climate, charting an important time in adolescent life when identity is carved and existence questioned. The play will ask young people and audiences to consider some big questions;

  • How do I and others around me view the world?
  • What is my identity?
  • What is my purpose?
  • How should I live my life?

About the project: the project has been commissioned by the Lincoln Diocesan Board of Education and will be jointly delivered with two Lincolnshire-based arts organisations: Shooting Fish Theatre Company and cultural solutions UK. The project seeks to develop a social inclusion programme through a series of plays delivered in collaboration with schools/communities in the Grantham and Skegness areas. The themes are the development of spirituality; social cohesion; bringing together of a greater understanding of culturally-diverse groups and the promotion of a greater understanding/harmony between different faiths.

What they are looking for: they are seeking a freelance writer to join their team of artists to support the development and writing of a 45-minute original play script which will be produced by a professional team. The final production will be delivered by professional actors performing alongside young performers from participating schools. All schools will come together to share and celebrate their participation in a final community performance. An abridged version of the play will then undertake a T.I.E. tour of ten performances across Lincolnshire.

How it works: research, development and writing will need to be completed within a 7-week timescale by the 31st of March 2019. Some revisions may be required up until June 30th 2019. Writers will be expected to work collaboratively with their creative director and producers to deliver the script.
