As part of Tamasha’s Digital Development programme in partnership with The National Theatre’s Immersive Storytelling Studio, they will be launching a pilot Tamasha Digital R&D Labs open to artists across the UK.
The programme will encompass three separate Digital R&D labs over the course of a year. Per lab, Tamasha will commission a set of creatives giving them two weeks to explore, interrogate and create a new piece of work using a form of technology.
Each piece should be inspired by the idea of Home.
By the end of each lab cycle, the artists will be asked to present a full treatment of what they explored and want to create. This can be a pitch doc or even a working prototype. This material can be used to source funding for the next stage if desired by each set of Artists.
The ambition is to select one out of the three sets and bring their piece into production with full support from Tamasha and National Theatre’s Immersive Storytelling Studio.
Held at the NT’s Immersive Storytelling Studio and produced by Tamasha, the three Digital Labs will be running in; August ‘22, October ‘22 and January ‘23.
The fee for each creative is £1500 (excluding VAT). The fee will be paid in agreed instalments, on receipt of an invoice.
Out of pocket expenses (excluding London travel up to Zone 6), which are directly attributable to this role will be paid but must be agreed in advance with Tamasha. Expenses will be paid on submission of a valid receipt and invoice.
Each lab invites a pair of artists, consisting of a writer and a maker (the maker can be someone from any artistic background who possess the ability to make, they can be a producer, a director, a sound designer, a devisor, a graphic designer etc.) to spend two weeks at the National Theatre’s Immersive Storytelling Studio with Tamasha’s Producers.
Each pair will be looking at an innovative exploration of the word ‘Home’. The word Home can mean many things to different people. It can be a physical location, a sound, a song, a person, a place, or a feeling; it is somewhere, something or someone that centres you and gives you a sense of belonging. For those of us who come from more than one place, home can often be a very elusive term.
The idea should incorporate the digital world, considering the many mediums we can now use to tell stories, from Tik-Tok to WhatsApp to your good old fashioned audio project all the way up to XR technology, we want you to look at how we can tell stories and how that can be explored within a digital landscape.
The lab requires the creatives to apply as pairs and must already have an idea to pitch when applying.
The pair of Artists must have the following:
- A clear idea that they want to explore
- Clearly demonstrating experience working in the creative sector as a Writer or Maker
- Experience working collaboratively
- Experience in devising work
- Strong organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise activities, focus on details and work to tight deadlines
Interviews are likely to take place the week commencing 18 July at Tamasha’s offices in London.
Each set of creatives are expected to attend the R&D lab in London at the National Theatre’s Immersive Storytelling Studio for two consecutive weeks in the given months. By the end of the two weeks the creatives should have a written treatment or a working prototype that can be used as a pitching tool to bring into production.
