This October, for the fourth year running, The Customs House is opening its doors to another raft of great new writing.
PLAY 4 is an opportunity for five writers to have 15 minutes of their work performed as a rehearsed reading by a cast of professional actors on Thursday 17th October at 7.00pm, in The Customs House Studio Theatre.
The Customs House want you to submit a piece that makes you care about people, past and present from the North East.
Your submission could be written entirely from scratch or could be an excerpt from a piece you’ve already been working on – PLAY 4 is a great opportunity to hear your words out loud!
There will be four actors available for each play, so you may prefer to choose a scene that fits this best or is suitable for multi-roles. They also ask for your chosen scenes to use minimal set and props.
Successful writers will be given audience feedback, following the rehearsed reading and one of the PLAY pieces will also be recipient of The Peter Lathan Prize for New Writing with £2000 worth of in-kind support from The Customs House. This may be, but isn’t exclusive to, rehearsal space, staff time or use of facilities.
Writers will need to be from or reside in the North East of England.
Interested writers should submit the following:
- Name, location, and a some information about yourself
- Title of your piece, a brief synopsis, cast break-down and up to 15 minutes of script
The Customs House are particularly keen to hear unheard stories and voices, from anyone who has a story to share, not only those who have previous writing experience.
The deadline for submissions is midday 9th September 2024 and submissions should be sent to productions@customshouse.co.uk
