The Scenic Route is currently seeking submissions from composers, lyricists and musical theatre performers for inclusion in our next Sneak Preview Cabaret showcasing new musical theatre writing.
They are delighted to welcome Andy Barnes of Perfect Pitch and Annemarie Lewis Thomas of MTA as special guests to provide feedback on selected works.
The event takes place on Tuesday 19th January, 7.30pm, in its new home at the Phoenix Artist Club, WC2.
What to submit:
Submission option #1: Musical Excerpt They are interested in hearing from composers/lyricists who are keen to come along and present a concert style performance of 3/4 numbers from their new musical (works in progress or otherwise), with accompanying narrated plot summaries/ excerpts. Their guest panel of industry professionals will then provide feedback on the work.
Submission option #2: Concert Numbers They are interested in hearing from composers/lyricists who are keen to come along and present a concert style performance of one song from a new musical, works in progress or otherwise. The songs can be out of context as we will facilitate introductions as necessary. The panel will not provide formal feedback on concert numbers. For both options we ask that you provide your own pianist/ backing tracks and performer/s (They will provide the piano and mics, etc).

Dear Producer.
I have a completed musical play, that I’d like to submit it for your consideration. Together with a jazz pianist friend, we finished the script and music
I couldn’t submit until recent retirement, due to a busy schedule as a college professor.
The name of the play is “The Revival of George” and is inspired by George Orwell’s novel “1984”, written as a warning to the Western civilizations, about the changes that could occur in human’s life, when the leaders of the society, obliterate the minds of the people, using a deceiving ideology.
It is a romance story, impeded by the “Big Brother”, that takes place in London in 1984- more than 40 years after the novel was written- when England has been incorporated into a large empire named Oceania. The play’s coincidental similarities with the dangers of modern political realities, are instrumental for the revival of Orwell’s voice, in the defense of democracy.
Last Summer, the play “1984” made it to Broadway’s Hudson Theatre, bringing a PG13 dystopic message. However, the Orwell’s message could be made also entertaining by “The Revival of George’s” dramatic script with 41 musical numbers – a blend of pop songs and hip-hop- and the general feeling, that love is stronger than anything in life. I really think it will make the spectators humming the songs, after the show.
The play has 3 acts with 15 characters, 4 dancers and a small musical group (piano, percussion, guitar, bass). If interested, I could send you the script, all the music sheets and a demo CD digitally recorded with Sibelius software.
Thank you for reading this Query.
