Job Description
You will be supported to develop and share a new piece of writing, on a subject and in a style of your choosing, reflecting on the trans+ experience. The piece will be 10-15 minutes in length, and shared as part of Transcribe’s celebration event, during Trans+ History Week, at John Hansard Gallery, Southampton.
You will be paired with a dedicated, experienced trans+ writer, such as Tabby Lamb and Ri Baroche, to offer editorial and development support. You will also be supported by QueerAF to develop and write a new think piece as part of their Queer Gaze scheme, receiving expert insight and support on messaging, communication and honing your writing craft.
Your new piece will be filmed prior to the event by WeMakeSouthampton, with the live event also being recorded and live-streamed. Your work will be published in a limited run anthology, featuring artwork inspired by your writing from our commissioned Trans+ Artist.
The commission fee is £400, and includes development support from Transcribe’s network of trans+ writers, and QueerAF.
All levels of experience, all styles, disciplines and forms, are welcome and encouraged.
Anyone who identifies as Trans+, with a base in and around the Hampshire region, who is 18+ at the time of application, is welcome to apply.
We’re particularly keen to hear from applicants from the Global Majority, and those who are disabled and/or neurodivergent.
The deadline to apply is mid-day 12pm on Thursday 2nd April 2026.
