It’s that time of year again! Yes, we’re gearing up for our annual January playwriting challenge – WrAP (Write. A. Play)!
With daily writing prompts to guide you through every step of the way, you can write a whole first draft in the month of January.
This time, we’ll be ramping things up with weekly podcasts and videos to help keep you going! We’re also offering a free Zoom session on 7th December where you can ask any questions you might have and get some inspiration ready for #WrAP2023, book your place here.
Here’s everything you need to know…
What’s WrAP? WrAP is our annual playwriting challenge where you aim to write the first draft of a play in the month of January. When you sign up, you receive emails throughout the month which guide you through the process of writing a play – from finding inspiration for your initial idea, to building a structure, to creating characters. The idea is to complete a first draft of a play in the month of January.
That’s a big commitment, what if I don’t have time? It doesn’t matter! You can’t fail at WrAP – even if you only manage a few pages or the seeds of an idea, it’s still more than you had to start with and that’s a massive achievement for January! Plus the emails will be in your inbox forever so you can work through them at a later date if need be.
How will WrAP2023 be better than ever? We know lots of you have done WrAP before over the last few years so we’re always looking for ways to make it better and keep you inspired. This time, we’ll be adding in weekly podcasts and videos which will help explain the prompts and inspire you further. We’ll also be inviting you along to a free Zoom session beforehand where you can find out more and get yourself ready to WrAP! And last but not least…we’ll be providing redrafting advice and a Zoom session in the Spring so you can polish up those WrAP plays ahead of next year’s submission window!
What if I’ve never written a play before, can I take part? Yes! It doesn’t matter if it’s your first play or your fiftieth, or if you have minimal spare time: all that matters is that you want to give it a go. After all, even if you only get a few scenes written, or a rough first draft, it’s still more than you had at the start of January. #WrAP2022. WrAP is actually great for beginners as it guides you through the writing process and helps you to stay on track!
Can we submit our WrAP plays to you? We’ll be opening our 2023 submission window next summer which is your chance to send your WrAP2023 plays to us!
