Yorkshire Screenwriters is a community-based organisation supporting screenwriters in the region to develop and refine their craft, and to connect with opportunities and information from the industry in the region.
On the first Wednesday of each month, members meet online or in person (in central Leeds), to give feedback on submitted scripts, and we have regular input from industry voices to help connect with the realities of professional writing and production. In the last year, this has included contributors from BFI Film Hub North, New Writing North, Screen Yorkshire, and a Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Executive.
All writers for screen are welcomed to join and submit work, be that short or feature film scripts, scripts for long- and short-form television, or treatments and other relevant development work (writing for stage or radio is not accepted). Each month, leaders distribute selected scripts to receive feedback from the group.
Feedback is intended always to be supportive, individual, and usefully critical, and they’re building a friendly, supportive and professionally-minded group of writers and filmmakers. Members are welcome at any stage of their writing career, and where submitted work is not quite ready for the group, leaders will provide some guidance to develop this.
Meetings and events are posted regularly on the Facebook page
