Opportunities – Pick of the Week: The Liverpool Hope Playwriting Prize open for entries of comedy scripts

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: The Liverpool Hope Playwriting Prize open for entries of comedy scripts

Description: The Liverpool Hope Playwriting Prize is the second largest national playwriting competition, and provides a great platform for new comedy writing across the UK and Republic of Ireland. They are currently accepting submissions of previously unproduced comedy scripts.

What’s so great about it? This is one of the big playwriting competitions and one of the only ones targeted at comedy writers. The prize for the winner is a whopping £10K and if that’s not enough to convince you, the winner also gets the opportunity to have their play considered for production by Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre, while up to two Highly Commended awards of £1,500 are also on offer. Judging is anonymous and you’ve got until 22 July to get those scripts in, so still time for some last minute polishing!
