Sex Worker’s Opera – Amplifying Marginalised Voices: Workshop

Over 5 years Experimental Experience have taken Sex Worker’s Opera from an East London grassroots experiment to selling out a UK Tour last autumn and – this summer – one of Amsterdam’s central theatres whilst performing at the International AIDS Conference and LGBTIAQ+ Pride.

Sex Worker’s Opera is created and performed by sex worker artists and friends, features at least 50% sex workers at all times throughout the cast, orchestra and production team and draws on our members experiences and over 100 stories sent in from 18 countries across 6 continents.

During this workshop the directors will share the story of the project and discuss some of the methods through which this 2hr opera/jazz/musical/hip-hop/spoken word piece has been made. They will also reflect on the ethics of bringing marginalised and hidden identities onto the stage and into the public eye.
