Here we go again, it’s Play Club number 3!
In response to Stewart Pringle’s play Trestle last month, we received some fantastic entries for the second Play Club window which were a brilliant mix of comedy, drama and the every day! It was a tricky task to choose a piece for the reading, but we managed to make our selection and the chosen play for the second Play Club is…
Hope and Loss by Sally Wilden
An intro to Sally:
Sally is co-author of Trojan Whores, Pulse Festival, New Wolsey Theatreand Courtyard Theatre, London;received a Film Council script developmentaward, Someone Awake Somewhere; herone act play, Adlestrop – again published by Playwrights Publishing Company, ISBN:978-7-9110028-54-4; now collaborating with Woven Theatre to develop a play, Gainsborough and the Modern Woman to play to be toured in Suffolk 2020.
We’re delighted to be taking Sally’s play for a reading by actors at the final members meet-up of the year, where we can discuss the piece and have conversations surrounding the work! And if you want a bit of the action, there’s still 2 chances to submit your work! Read on below to find out about out what we’re reading this month…
Fleabag by Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Ahead of it’s London run, we thought we’d take a punt at reading the original script of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s monumental work Fleabag.
The play that inspired the hit television series, Fleabag is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life. Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.

Submissions
As we mentioned previously, we challenge you to write a short, 10 page play (12 font size, please!) in direct response to what you’ve read.
Our submission window in response to Fleabag will be open from Monday 8th July – Sunday 4th August so please don’t send us scripts before then!
An email will be sent your way once the window is open with full details of how to submit, including; where to send it, our format guidelines and some top tips.

You’re also more than welcome to just read the plays and join in some discussion with us about them on the members Facebook group! We’ll open up a discussion forum on there at the same time we open for submissions, so don’t feel you have to write a play, you’re absolutely fine to just read too.
