This workshop will explore scene and play structures, and discovering rhythms to suit your story as you turn it into a play. Through practical exercises and study of existing texts, we’ll try to look at the shapes of stories, and the infinite possibilities of how to shape a play.
Barney Norris is a playwright and novelist, whose work has been awarded the International Theatre Institute’s Award for Excellence, a South Bank Sky Arts Times Breakthrough Award, a Critics Circle Award, an Offwestend Award, a Betty Trask Award and the Northern Ireland One Book Award, and translated into nine languages. His novels include the bestselling Five Rivers Met On A Wooded Plain and most recently the critically acclaimed Undercurrent; his plays include Visitors, Eventide, Nightfall and The Wellspring. He reviews regularly for the Guardian, teaches creative writing at the University of Oxford, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
