London based Chalk Roots Theatre are seeking 5 to 10 minutes monologues for their online showcase OUT OF CONTROL that will be streamed online on their YouTube channel this May.
For the first time in our lives humanity as a whole is forced to confront the vulnerability and helplessness of our species as a whole. This confrontation can take many forms – from endlessly hoarding toilet paper to preserve the position of being in control to falling prey to widespread conspiracy theories – all in search for consolation that the virus was humanmade – and there’s still someone in control.
But after all the hoarding is done, after conspiracy theories become too outrageous to even be considered – humanity is left with the realisation that it isn’t us who are at the top of the food chain, that our centuries-long striving to be in control and create order can be undermined by an organism so minuscule that it is invisible to the naked eye.
Numerous contemporary philosophers have expressed doubts whether the world will ever be the same – no matter how much everyone wishes for it to return to the way it was. What’s awaiting us? Will we have to renegotiate our relations to one another and the world itself? Will we be able to just go back to the way things were? What will we take from the current events and their impeding climax?
Chalk Roots Theatre wish to invite you to contemplate these questions together and are looking forward to your submissions!
- The monologues should be 5 to 10 minutes in length.
- The monologues will be performed by the company actors and their associates with the playing age of 20 to 30 years old.
- Writer must be based in the UK
- From over-the-top hilarious to sombrely serious to heart-rendering tragic – they want to hear YOUR VOICE and showcase your take on the current situation.
