Upcoming workshops and talks

There are a number of exciting workshops and talks aimed at writers coming up soon.  Here are a few you may want to check out!

Rehearsal Room Presents…: Salon evening and Q&A with John Yorke (author of writing guide Into the Woods)
Wednesday 21 May 2014 at 7.30pm, Pleasance Theatre (£6/£8)

Playwright/performer and broadcaster/journalist Yasmeen Khan hosts and curates the second ‘The Rehearsal Room Presents’, a salon-style night of theatre featuring half-hour rehearsed readings of two new plays, including one of Yasmeen’s. There will also be a Q&A with special guest John Yorke, ex Controller of BBC Drama, current MD of Company Pictures and author of best-selling screen-writing book, Into The Woods. Live music will come from hotly-tipped electronic duo Moonrags.

Workshops at Brockley Jack for Write Now 5 Festival
3 separate Saturday Workshops: 1-3pm on 24 May, 31 May, and 7 June (£10 per workshop)

As part of their Write Now 5 Festival, the Brockley Jack will be running several workshops.  These can be booked separately.  24 May: Creating Characters.  31 May: Synopsis Surgery.  7 June: Improvisation for Writers.

BBC Writersroom Top Tips on Screenwriting seminar
28 May 2014, 5-8pm, Leeds University

Join Henry Swindell, Development Producer for BBC Writersroom (which focuses on championing writers from across the UK) who will provide you with some invaluable tips and answer any burning questions you may have about screenwriting.

XY: How to Create Gender-blind Theatre
Saturday, 7th June 2014, from 2-5pm
Clean Break Theatre, 2 Patshull Road, London, NW5 2LB (Registration £20)

Inspired by their acclaimed short play festival XY, Papercut Theatre’s Artistic Director, Melissa Dunne, will lead a short workshop on how you can create gender-blind characters and stories. Using simple techniques that strip away preconceptions about the roles of men and women, the workshop will look at and explore how gender informs actors’ understanding of character and impacts audience perception.

TV Drama Writers Festival 2014
