Newsboy seeking scripts for ‘Commonwealth Edition’

(Note: this opportunity appears to be different from a separate call put out by Tron Theatre, also requesting plays about the Commonwealth Games.)

NEWSBOY is looking for short scripts, to be part of its COMMONWEALTH EDITION on Friday 25 July at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games: 71 Nations, One City, and a Media Furore…. But what is really happening in these 71 Nations? What is newsworthy in these nations beyond this one heralded sporting event?

What to submit:  For this edition of NEWSBOY they are looking for scripts based on news stories from any of the 71 nations competing in the Commonwealth Games (or the 53 Countries which constitute The Commonwealth). Scripts should examine, investigate and challenge the social, economic and political issues in one or more of these nations (including Scotland) and/or the way in which those issues are represented in the media.

They welcome submissions from writers of all levels of experience and you can write in any style or genre. We are keen to hear from writers who are from or have ties to any of the Commonwealth nations, although anyone can send us a script from anywhere. We are looking for exciting pieces which provoke debate and discussion. They are particularly looking for short scripts, sketches, songs, poetry, or pieces directly involving the audience. However they will consider scripts which are up to 10 pages long with minimal staging requirements.

How to apply:  Please email scripts to newsboyproject@outlook.com.

Deadline: 20 June 2014 at midnight
