Live Theatre seeking playwrights for “10 Minutes To…” (Newcastle)

Live Theatre is launching 10 Minutes To a brand new event in which five playwrights are matched with five directors and given the opportunity to write a 10 minute play that responds to a particular theme.

For the first of these events they want writers to respond to the theme Save the World.  They are asking writers to interpret this theme on their own terms, to be inspired and think as widely as they like. We love to be surprised so let your imagination lead you.

How it works:  They will select five writers and five directors to meet at a networking evening to discuss their ideas and the ways in which they like to work. From these conversations they will then pair up writers and directors to work together.

The networking evening for writers and directors will take place on the  Wednesday 18 June (Applicants must be available for this event).

Writers and directors will then have two weeks to complete the piece, cast it and be ready for an intensive rehearsal weekend on the Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July. This will culminate in a public off book performance on the evening of Sunday 6 July.

What to submit:  Send  a synopsis/outline (100 words max) of the short play you would like to write in response to our theme along with a short example of your writing.

  • Plays must be no longer than 10 minutes
  • No more than 4 characters
  • Be able to be performed with minimal staging and technical support

How to apply:  Email submissions to graeme@live.org.uk by 10 Minutes To 10am on Monday 9 June.

Deadline:  Monday 9 June 2014 at 9.50am
