BAFTA Rocliffe launches competition for children’s writers (entry fee)

BAFTA, in partnership with Rocliffe and supported by The London Book Fair, has announced a call for scripts from emerging writers for the first ever BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing forum focused on children’s film and television.

Now in its fourteenth year, the forum is turning its eye to writing which connects with a children’s audience, offering entrants the chance to present their work to influential members of the film and television industries. Whether it’s animation, comedy or something else entirely, the BAFTA Rocliffe team is looking for emerging writers whose work demonstrates a talent for exciting and outstanding children’s content.

Entrants are invited to submit a ten page script extract to be considered by a talented and experienced jury from the world of children’s film and television. Between them, the jurors will select three outstanding writers to have their work performed by professional actors and discussed by a high profile guest in front of a live industry audience at BAFTA’s 195 Piccadilly. In addition, one writer from the three projects, selected by The London Book Fair , will receive an expenses-paid trip and full delegate pass to the MIP Junior international children’s programming market in Cannes in October, where they will receive extensive industry introductions and networking opportunities, organised by The London Book Fair .

How to apply: you need to send a 10 page script extract along with supporting materials, including a synopsis (full details and terms and conditions can be found here).

There is an entry fee for this competition which can be paid by paypal or cheque. The cost for early bird entries is £6 (received by 21 July 2014) or £11 for standard entries. Please note that there is an additional £10 fee for email submissions to cover the cost of printing.

Deadline: Early bird 21 July 2014. Final deadline 1 September 2014.
