Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: GRIT: Royal Court seeking plays about resistance that can fit in the palm of your hand
Description: Since December 2014, the Royal Court has been collecting new plays about dissent – of a size to fit in the palm of a hand – and showcasing them online. They’ve recently extended the deadline to 15 May 2015, and announced an accompanying scratch night on 2 June.
So, what’s so great about it? GRIT has drawn on submissions from the global playwriting community, and this is a cool opportunity to be part of a far-reaching project. Also, unlike most opportunities and competitions – where it may feel you’re casting your submission into a void – GRIT’s Tumblr site allows all submissions to be seen and shared, allowing a creative showcase for your work without having to be a ‘winner’. The addition of a a scratch night is extra motivation to get involved – you may have your play shared, or you can join in the open mic night to share your work in progress. There’s only a couple of days to get your submission in before the deadline, but with a play so small, there’s no excuse not to sit down and get writing now!

We’re trying something new to make the site easier to browse, let us know if you like Pick of the Week and we might make it a full time thing.
