Call out for applications to ‘Women in The Spotlight’ funded residential at Arvon (for LGBT+ or BAME women)

Commonword’s Women in the Spotlight are delighted to announce a partnership with Arvon. In March 2016 we will be holding a week long residential, performance poetry and script-writing course at the Hurst in Shropshire (http://www.arvon.org/centres/the-hurst/). The course is for writers who self-identify as a woman and as either BAME and/or LGBT+.

Arvon’s five-day residential creative writing courses offer a powerful mix of workshops, individual tutorials and time and space to write, led by leading writers. Tutors and a mid-week guest to be confirmed but will be experienced and established within the industry.  There are 5 places left on the course.

About Women in the Spotlight:
Women in the Spotlight (WITS) is a theatre development programme for women who want to write for and/or perform on the stage. This project will culminate in a group of queer women and BAME women having their short plays staged at a Manchester theatre and also them having the opportunity to confidently perform their own work within an established arts venue.

Fee:  The course is subsidized however there will be £100 fee. Please note you will need to be available 14th – 19th March 2016.

What to submit/How to apply:  If you are interested in attending please send in the following to afshan@cultureword.org.uk :

  • A completed draft of a 15 minute script + 3 performance poems OR 10 performance poems + completed draft of a 5 minute script
  • A brief bio
  • A covering letter as to why they wish to attend the course and how it would benefit them
