An £8,000 commission is on offer in an inaugural prize that has been launched for new playwrights who work in the theatre industry.
Out of Joint and the Experienced Theatre Practitioners Early Playwriting Trust have launched the Writers in Theatre – WiT Award.
It is open to UK residents of any age who have not had a play professionally produced, and who have worked front of house, in administrative roles, on stage, backstage, or in a creative capacity for at least two years.
The winner will receive a new play commission of £8,000; a development relationship with Out of Joint, the theatre company known for presenting new writing; and a workshop with actors and a director to develop the play, with a presentation before an audience.
The panel of judges will be looking for a play of substance which contributes to our understanding of an aspect of the human condition or experience, from a writer with the capacity to enhance our political or social awareness. Maximum six actors.
The winner will be announced on 15 May 2017.
What to submit: A full-length script (at least 80 minutes), writer’s statement, CV and references.
