Alphabetti Theatre is offering three opportunities with rolling deadlines.
Alphabetti create, produce and programme original work across the performing arts. They have been running venues and developing writers since 2012. They are moving to a new long-term home in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2017 – a space to experiment, evolve and discover excellence.
Opportunity 1 – Alphabetti WriteBack
Are you a writer who wants to make theatre that is accessible and relatable? Do you have an idea for a new short play that can be produced with no more than two actors, and minimal set? Then you could be part of Alphabetti Theatre’s regular script-in-hand performance night – WriteBack.
WriteBack is an opportunity for theatre writers and directors to collaborate on a new piece of theatre.
What to submit: Up to 15 pages of script for consideration. Please also include a line or two in your email about why you would like your piece to be performed at WriteBack.
Submissions are open all year round for four WriteBack shows, featuring five plays each.
This is how it works:
- Submissions are read and picked by the reading team
- Over a chat, read through and cup of tea the writers and directors form wonderful new partnerships
- Alphabetti give these partnerships access to rehearsal space and dramaturgical support
- The show is performed (usually to a full house)
- All proceeds are split for a profit-share between performers, directors and writers
How to apply: Send an original short script for consideration, to literary manager, Ben Dickenson: ben@alphabettitheatre.co.uk
Opportunity 2 – Alphabetti Soup commissions
Are you a writer who wants to make theatre that is accessible and relatable? Can you create an original short play, with a compelling and entertaining story, for no more than two actors, and minimal set?
Alphabetti commission up to twelve 10-20 minute plays for their regular mixed arts variety night – Alphabetti Soup. This runs almost every month, so they consider writers and scripts all year round.
You will receive dramaturgical support, a full professional production and a showcase of your work.
What to submit/how to apply: Send an original short script, or an example of your work with a proposal for a new 15min play, to literary manager, Ben Dickenson: ben@alphabettitheatre.co.uk
Opportunity 3 – Alphabetti Write Longer
Are you a writer who wants to make theatre that is accessible and relatable? Do you have a one act play with a strong story, small cast and that can work in a studio production? Are you writing one now? Is it just begging to be seen by an audience?
Write Longer is a development opportunity for emerging and established writers. Alphabetti Theatre take three or four writers a year, help them develop their scripts, provide a company of directors, rehearsal space and dramaturgical support.
They then show the play for one night, followed by a Q&A feedback session to help with future development.
What to submit/How to apply: send your completed one act play (maximum 75minutes), or your work in progress and an outline of the finished play, to literary manager, Ben Dickenson: ben@alphabettitheatre.co.uk
