Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Papatango Resident Playwright 2017 (£2000 seed commission)
Description: The search for Papatango’s 2017 Resident Playwright begins. The residency provides a £2000 seed commission, one-to-one dramaturgy, and script development workshops with professional actors to complete a brilliant new play, with an option for a full production by Papatango.
What’s so great about it? We think this is an amazing opportunity for a playwright to develop their work with the brilliant, and highly commended theatre company, Papatango. Their first resident playwright, May Sumbwanyambe, had his play published and produced at the Arcola (to rave reviews, no less!), he then went on to win the Alfred Fagon Audience Award in a ceremony at the National Theatre.
The chosen writer will get a £2000 seed commission and plenty of dramaturgical support in developing their play, with an option for full production by Papatango. Sounds good? Well, to apply, you have to send in a cover letter and two 10-page samples of your work and like all Papatango opportunities, your application must be anonymous. Please note: applications will be accepted between 22 May 2017- 1 June 2017; we just wanted to give you plenty of time to put your application together!
