After School Club looking for plays about lives of young people for debut new writing event

The After School Club are a brand new theatre company looking for a gem of a play to make their debut.

The After School Club says this is a “great opportunity to have your work produced.

“We are a new writing theatre company that aim to tackle challenging themes and bring controversial subject matters to the forefront of peoples’ minds.

“We aim to work in a collaborative way, involving writers/directors/actors throughout the whole process to create pieces that pack a punch and keep audiences talking and questioning.

We are looking for pieces that have well rounded/strong female characters that explore every angle of a woman. This being said the play does not have to be about ‘being a woman’, we know that ‘strong’ female is open to interpretation and we are open to that – we are not just looking for female ‘heroes’.

“In particular we are interested in stories about the lives of young people (late teens/early 20s) and also stories that explore  human relationships in all it’s beauty/ugliness.

“We are looking for plays that are already written but also open to proposals of plays for collaboration and development. Plays should not have been performed before on stage (not including rehearsed reads)

“This will be our very first endeavour. It’s going to be a learning curve but we’re definitely going in hard because we want to start as we mean to go on and set the bar for the level of work that we as a company create and produce.

“We have some exciting creatives involved and can’t wait to get started.”
