DMs Are Open is back! The radio sketch show written by YOU – the listeners! Your hosts Athena Kugblenu and Ali Official return for a new series of brilliant sketch comedy written by the public.
For this series, DMs Are Open is going NON-TOPICAL. This means that they’re not looking for sketches based around news stories of the week. Instead, they’ll be issuing a different Episode Theme each week – and they want your sketches, one-liners and voice notes to fit into that theme. So don’t worry about starting from a recent news story, as long as the material is on theme, it’s got a chance of getting on the show.
And what are the themes? You’re going to have to wait – new themes will be released week by week and you’ll be able to find these on the submissions page and tweeted out from the @DMsAreOpenBBC Twitter. As soon as submissions close for one writing week, the theme for the next will be available.
Join the team for a writing webinar on Tuesday 18th April at 6pm where they’ll be unveiling the first theme and opening submissions.
For more information and how and what to send, visit the Submit Your Ideas website
Deadlines:
Submissions open after the webinar on Tuesday 18th April from 7pm.
Sketches: Mondays at Midday from 24th April 2023
One-Liners and voicenotes: Tuesdays at Midday from 25th April 2023
Then at the same times each week, for 7 weeks.
Submissions after these times or not meeting the above guidelines will NOT be read.
For series 2, DMs are Open is moving to Fridays at 10.30pm on BBC Radio 4 Extra, and then the show will be available for catch up on BBC Sounds.

I am not from that circle. What does DM means?
Hi Claudette, it’s social media talk for Direct Message – I think it’s just implying they are taking submissions!
