Deptford Literature Festival – call out for local writers

Matchstick Theatre Company are inviting expressions of interest from writers with connections to Deptford for their project Pieces of Eight which is part of Deptford Literature Festival 2022.

MTC will form a writers group (comprised of 8 writers) who will use inspiration from Deptford, SE8, to create new short work about the area. The group will be lead by playwrights Annette Brook and Mark Daniels from Matchstick Theatre Company.

All 8 writers will create 8 short plays/monologues (8 mins or less) which will be shared at Matchstick Piehouse on Saturday 19 March as part of Deptford Literature Festival and Monday 21 March. There will be two inspiration sessions (on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 February) for writers to explore the area and consider the stories of Deptford. Inspiration might come from the flea market, or the Creek, or historic figures such as playwright Christopher Marlowe (who died in Deptford).

All writers will be paid £100 for their short piece.
