Now in its 37th year, the Dubuque (Iowa) Fine Arts Players One-Act Playwriting Contest is accepting submissions for the 2014 season. Established in 1977, Dubuque Fine Arts Players’ one-act play contest is the oldest in the United States (according to their website). The contest now receives entries from around the country and around the world.
How to apply: Submissions can be made using their online submission form. (There are also guidelines for submitting by post, if that is your preference.)
What you pay: The entry fee depends on how you choose to send your script. $20 entry fee for online entries; $15 entry fee for submissions made by post.
What you get: Each year, approximately 150 entries are reviewed and judged by local volunteers to select the best three. The three winning playwrights are awarded $600, $300, and $200 respectively, and the winning plays are produced and performed by the group each year in the Fall. Productions feature the talents of local actors and directors in the world premiere performances of winning plays.
All writers who submit to the competition will receive feedback from the competition readers.
Deadline: 31 January 2014
