As part of the Arts Council England-funded IdeasTap Inspires programme , IdeasTap has teamed up with HighTide Festival Theatre to offer 300 members the chance to attend a free two-hour playwriting workshop. This is an exciting opportunity for young or would-be playwrights aged 16+ to hone their skills with an organisation dedicated to new writing.
The workshops will take place between December 2014 and February 2015 at six venues in Bristol, Ipswich, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford and Sheffield:
- Sheffield Theatres: Wednesday 3December 2014, workshop leader Sarah Grochala
- The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich: Thursday 22January 2015, workshop leader Luke Barnes
- Oxford Playhouse: Friday 30January 2015, workshop leader Zoe Lewis
- Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester: Saturday 7 February 2015, workshop leader Steven Atkinson
- Bristol Old Vic: Saturday 14February 2015, workshop leader Jack Lowe
- Northern Stage, Newcastle: Friday 27 February 2015, workshop leader Alex Chisholm
Twenty-five writers will attend each workshop and there will be two workshops in each location. Once all workshops have been completed, 25 attendees will be selected to upload a sample of their work, influenced by their time at their workshop. The deadline for submitting this will be Monday 2 March 2015.
Based on the 25 samples, HighTide will pick up to five people to join an intensive bootcamp, led by director Will Wrightson, and Steven Atkinson, HighTide’s Artistic Director, in London in the week commencing 9March 2015. At the bootcamp, you’ll work with Will and Steve and a group of professional actors to develop and workshop your writing, culminating in a reading of your work.
IdeasTap members from outside London who are selected for the bootcamp will receive a travel allowance and accommodation from within our network for those without a place to stay. This will be offered on a case-by-case basis.
NB: This opportunity is aimed at people who are starting out. It is not necessary to have worked or trained professionally or have a professional playwriting CV to apply. The judges are looking for people who demonstrate a commitment to learning the craft of playwriting.
You can find out more about HighTide productions and opportunities at hightide.org.uk.
How to apply: you’ll need to apply through IdeasTap where you’ll be required to fill out an application form and upload supporting materials.
