HighTide Festival Theatre and Royal & Derngate, Northampton have launched the HighTide / Royal & Derngate Award, designed to commission a play which examines life outside of our major cities; an original piece which explores and has its roots in those towns and rural communities that make up the majority of the population.
They are interested particularly in writers finding innovative ways to get under the skin of their chosen subject, and interesting ways to research the world of their play. The award will see one playwright awarded a full commission with the research and development for the project fully supported through residencies and readings at Royal & Derngate and HighTide. Following a full development process, the winning script will be co.produced by Royal & Derngate and HighTide.
The award is open to all UK based writers, from playwrights and screenwriters to novelists and poets, at any stage in their career.
Joining Artistic Directors Steven Atkinson and James Dacre are a panel of eminent judges: Sudha Bhuchar (Tamasha), Alecky Blythe (playwright), Sebastian Born (National Theatre), Madani Younis (Bush Theatre), Timberlake Wertenbaker (playwright), Amanda Whittington (playwright).
