About the organisers:
Contact is where young people change their lives through the arts, and audiences of all ages experience exciting new shows. We are the leading national theatre and venue to place young people at the decision-making heart of everything.
At Contact, young people aged 13-30 genuinely lead, working alongside staff in deciding the artistic programme, making staff appointments and act as full Board members. The result is and outstanding, diverse and accessible artistic programme for everyone.
Contact has a long history of making work that addresses a range of complex and sensitive subject areas with and for diverse communities.The result produces socially relevant, and entertaining shows, which provoke discussion.
BHA is a health and social care charity which exists to challenge and address health and social care inequalities and support individuals, families and communities to improve their health and well-being.
About the project:
I am because we are is a project that aims to address the difficult and complex realties surrounding HIV related stigma within the Black African communities of Greater Manchester.
This new piece of theatre will tour to a range of non-theatre spaces across Greater Manchester, and present the subject matter in an engaging and sensitive manner, with the intention of connecting with those who are not being reached by other HIV prevention materials.
Through this unique partnership, the writer will be able to conduct a significant amount of research in to the subject including being able to work closely with a focus group of members of the Black African community living with HIV, health professionals delivering front line health services, and community leaders from the boroughs in which we plan to tour the piece.
What they are looking for:
They are particularly keen to work with individuals who have produced work on sensitive subjects in the past and who have conducted this type of research, as well as those who have significant experience of working with Black African communities.
Fee:
- 10 days of Research meetings £1000
- 5 days of R&D £500
- Writers Fee £5793
