Summer can be a busy time for writers juggling school holidays, summer plans, and maybe sitting at your desk might not feel all that appealing in nicer weather. But let’s be honest, the British summertime will no doubt bring a few rainy days and we want to encourage you to get some writing done – when you can!
With this in mind, we’re excited to announce our Summer Monologue Competition! Even if you don’t have time to work on a big project, we hope you can find space to write something and if you’re not sure what – then this is it!
We want to read your monologues of up to 2 pages and selected entries will be read by professional actors and recorded for our YouTube/ social media channels!
Monologues can be on any theme.
Who can apply: this opportunity is open to London Playwrights’ members only. This is due to the cost involved for us to produce the monologues. If you’re not a member already, don’t worry, you can sign up here for just £3.63 and you’ll also get access to lots of other benefits which will keep you inspired over the summer and beyond!
How to apply: send your monologues to membersubmissions@londonplaywrights.org by 1st September. You are welcome to send a Word or PDF document or if you also want to perform your own monologue, you can also send a video! Writers will be notified of the outcome by 1st October 2023. Happy writing!
Deadline: 1st September 2023

Can you submit more than one entry?
Sorry, only just seen this. You can submit more than one – we’ll accept them until Sunday at midnight if you want to send more.
Thanks,
Kimberley
I have a 4 min long monologue, about 4 and a half pages. Is that too long? It is a woman complaining of her female status.
Sounds great, we’re looking forward to read it!
Dear Kimberley
Please ignore my previous comment, I got confused. I’ve just sent you a monologue for your competition closing 1st September 2023. However I’ve just received a reply saying, “….Our submission window closes on 3rd August 2022 -” It must be a mistake from your robot!
Claudette
Sorry Claudette – you are absolutely right! We forgot to change our auto-responder! But all have been received.
Thanks,
Kimberley
Dear Kimberley
I’ve just sent you a monologue too.
I got the same reply as Claudette.
Hope it’s arrived safely.
Sue
