MA Directing student at Mountview Academy seeking 60-75 minute play for final showcase

LPB was recently contacted with this script call from an emerging director who is looking for a play to produce for her MA Director showcase, featuring professional paid actors.

About the director: “My name is Emily Aboud. I was born and raised in the Caribbean, on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. I am currently studying MA Theatre Directing in Mountview Academy for Theatre Arts. I am looking for a 60-75 minute play script for my final showcase. I have just completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Edinburgh. I have directed sell-out productions of Equus and The Pillowman, as well as a 5-star production of Spring Awakening at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.”

What to submit: “I am looking for a playwright (with a play) who wants to work with me and truly create a 1 hour masterpiece. My style is often looking for philosophical plays that challenge an audience’s point of view, (such as Equus or The Nether) but also I’m a big fan of dark comedies i.e. anything by Martin McDonagh. I love plays that are full of trickery and new forms of storytelling. Another trait I like are plays that are culturally different. Plays that tell a story that the typical London theatregoer won’t often see. I think my Caribbean upbringing has a hand in this.”

What you get: “If chosen, this play will be cast with professional, paid actors and performed in Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts this coming May, with the potential of touring and further London venues. I’m afraid I cannot offer any reward other than the opportunity to see your work come to life and the opportunity to work with like minded professionals in the industry.”

How to apply:  Please send play submissions to emily.c.aboud@gmail.com and the director will confirm once received.

Deadline: 30 December 2016
