The Iskador Project | An Introduction to Rudolf Steiner’s Mystery Dramas for Emerging Theatre-makers
As part of its upcoming artistic development scheme The Iskador Project, the Marylebone Theatre invites emerging theatre-makers to attend an introductory course on the Mystery Dramas of Rudolf Steiner. These four plays, written just over a century ago, are modern evolutions of the medieval mystery tradition. They depict a group of characters, undergoing reincarnation over many centuries, influenced by both angelic and demonic beings. For many readers, they are uniquely thrilling, with much that is suggestive and inspirational for modern theatre-makers.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend four deep-reading sessions of Steiner’s plays, engaging with his work on a textual and dramatic level. Using the plays as stimulus, the sessions will involve a mixture of practical exercises, discussion, and reflection.

Following the course, applicants will be invited to submit a proposal for a new work in response to the studied material. From these submissions, one will be awarded £2000 in seed funding, dramaturgical support from the Marylebone Theatre, and a public reading as part of the Iscador Project’s 2027 programme.
