Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: The 2015 Bruntwood Prize
Description: We couldn’t run ‘Pick of the Week’ without mentioning this opportunity! The Bruntwood Prize, run by the Manchester Royal Exchange, is the biggest playwriting competition in the UK, both in terms of number of submissions and prize money. The competition runs every other year, so you’ll have to wait until 2017 for another shot at the prize.
So, what’s so great about it? As you’ll know if you’ve already read our Guide to Playwriting Competitions in 2015, the Bruntwood Prize provides phenomenal exposure for emerging writers, and a hefty monetary reward, with the winner normally taking home £16,000, and three Judges’ Awards winning £8,000 each. It’s fiercely competitive, but even if you don’t win, you’ll receive feedback if you make it to the top 100 plays, and there are online playwriting seminars and resources available to all writers at the competition website, writeaplay.co.uk. The deadline is on 5 June, so now is the time to focus on getting your script ready to go!

Please note, we’ve posted this for your convenience and we’re not affiliated with the organisers of the opportunity in any way.
We’re trying something new to make the site easier to browse, let us know if you like Pick of the Week and we might make it a full time thing.
