Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Call for theatre proposals for the Space’s Summer Season (June-September 2016)
Description: The Space is a performing arts centre based in a converted church on the Isle of Dogs, East London. They seek to programme high quality theatre productions, with a balance of classics, revivals and new writing. They are committed to providing opportunities for new, emerging and established performers, writers, directors and theatre companies. The Space is now open to applications for their summer season of shows.
So, what’s so great about it? We think it’s really important for writers to feel empowered to produce their work, after all, why wait for opportunities to come to you, right? So, if you’re thinking about making the leap in to getting your own work on stage but the whole process seems a bit daunting, this opportunity could be just what you’re looking for. In their words, they offer writers a ‘welcoming and supportive environment’; plus they offer box office splits, no upfront hire costs and support with marketing. This extra support would be so valuable to those new (or new-ish) to producing, not to mention the fact that The Space has a great reputation for new writing so would be an excellent choice of venue!
