Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: 2017 Bruntwood Prize open for submissions (cash prize & development)
Description: It’s that time again – the Bruntwood Prize 2017 is open for submissions! The biennial Bruntwood Prize is organised by The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and property company Bruntwood. It’s the biggest playwriting competition in the UK, both in terms of number of submissions and prize money and is open to all UK residents aged 16 and over.
What’s so great about it? Did we mention how big this competition is?! It’s not only one of the most prestigious playwriting competitions in the country but this time, it has a whopping prize fund of £40,000 which will be divided up according to the decision of the judges. ( just to give you a head up, traditionally, this has been awarded as a £16,000 prize to the winner, with three Judges Awards of £8,000). Not only is the prize money great but winners will enter into a development process with the Royal Exchange Theatre. You’ll need to a submit a full length play (under a pseudonym) – but the great news is, the deadline isn’t until June so you’ve got a good few months to polish and perfect your work.
