Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: First Commissions Scheme with HighTide
Description: First Commissions Scheme is an opportunity for writers age 30 and under who have not yet had a paid commission to develop a new piece of writing with HighTide. They will develop a new play, participate in rehearsed readings, receive mentorship, and be supported in the process of applying for Arts Council funding for their project.
So, what’s so great about it? If you’re a young writer at the start of your career, it can be incredibly difficult to figure how to make the leap into getting theatres interested in your work – and getting paid in the process. This scheme aims to bridge that gap, and is a great opportunity for young writers to take the next step in their career. Additionally, they’re interested in adventurous, challenging, and wide-ranging work that asks big questions about our world, and actively encourage applications from a diverse range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. You’ve already got until 25 November to get your application form in, so time to get cracking!
Please note, we’ve posted this for your convenience and we’re not affiliated with the organisers of the opportunity.
