Opportunities – Pick of the Week: Tamasha Theatre – Made at Home: A Tamasha Virtual Scratch Call Out

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: Tamasha Theatre – Made at Home: A Tamasha Virtual Scratch Call Out

Description: Every year, Tamasha Theatre Company has been asking you to send them new short scripts, on any subject, with those selected few being scratched in front of a live audience. But a certain virus that shall not be named has pooped all over that, so Plan B: they’ve adapted and taken it all online. As we’ve all spent a lot of time in our respective homes this year, Tamasha thought, why not get creative and set HOME as the theme. This doesn’t have to be too on-the-nose – they’re looking for a wide range of creative responses. So whether you’ve got a piece about what home has meant to you during the last few months, or if home is another country, a smell, a memory, a person – it’s completely up to you.

Why is it so great? Well since most of us have spent a lot of time at home in recent months, we doubt you’ll find it too difficult to write something on the theme of ‘home’, and as the theme itself pretty broad, you’re definitely not restricted to writing about your lockdown bread-baking endeavours (in fact, a wide range of creative responses is encouraged!) Tamasha has a great reputation as one of the best touring theatre companies and they positively encourage artists from Black, Asian, MENA, and all ethnic minority backgrounds to apply – so if you’re looking for the chance to work with a great company and can create a 15 minute piece by 17 August, you should give it a go!
