Play Club 2020 – Play #1 – Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner by Jasmine Lee Jones

To kick off #PlayClub2020 we’re super excited to be getting stuck into…

Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner by Jasmine-Lee Jones

Jasmine Lee-Jones’s Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner is an incredibly inventive and exciting piece of new writing; blending real-life and online personas to explore the frustration of white women profiting off of black culture and stereotypes. The play deals with the politics of social media and how the potential toxicity of these worlds can harm our closest relationships, all whilst using gifs, memes and emojis as a second language. The play debuted at the Royal Court in 2019 where it received high acclaim before winning Lee-Jones the Critics Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright.

You can get a copy of the play from Amazon for £9.99, it’s also available directly from Oberon Books.

We challenge you to write a 10 page play (12 font size, please!) in direct response to what you’ve read.

Our submission window in response to Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner will be open from
Monday 30th March – Sunday 19th April

(So please don’t send us scripts before then)

We’ll accept submissions from LPW members only, so if you’re not one yet but are wanting to submit – what’re you waiting for? It costs less than a cup of coffee a month and you get exclusive access to workshops, events and projects from us!

Details of how to sign up for membership can be found here.

A blog post and email will be sent your way once the window is open with full details of how to submit, but until then, happy reading for this month, and don’t forget to join the Facebook group discussion!

How to sign up

Play submissions for this project are exclusively for our members (you can sign up for less than 4 quid though and you’ll be helping to support the next generation of playwrights if you do!)

You’re also more than welcome to just read the plays and join in some discussion with us about them on the members Facebook group! We’ll open up a discussion forum on there at the same time we open for submissions, so do feel free to just read along with us if you’d prefer.

If you’re not a member yet, sign up now and follow the link as above.

Hi, is there anyway we can get a copy of the play to read? I am a member, or are we supposed to find a copy elsewhere? Sorry, not sure how this works!?

Hi Sophie, sorry you’re right, we need to make this clearer and we have now amended the post. We don’t currently provide copies of the plays however we do try to choose those which are widely available for as cheaply as possible. We are looking into ways we might be able to work with publishers to provide the plays in the future though.

Also, we recognise that due to shops closing, this play might not be as easy to get hold of as we initially thought – please bear with us whilst we try to come up with a workaround for this! Thank you, Kimberley
