“Scratch it!” Is Tigz Theatre’s new writing event that is scheduled to take place every 6 months at the London Welsh Centre. Designed to engage with new writers our aim is to give new talent the chance to see parts of their work staged in a scratch performance in the heart of central London. The event which will see 20 minute sections of a larger play being performed by professional actors will allow writers and audiences to scratch the surface of what, if selected by the Tigz Theatre team, will become a full scale co-production.
In 2016 “Scratch It!” will focus on two very different themes. In February “Scratch It!” will give voice to Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) writers and themes as we explore what it means to be LGBT during LGBT history month. In November “Scratch It!” will focus on the theme of the First World War as we approach the centenary of the battle of the Ypres and Passchendaele in 2017. From these two events 1-2 pieces will be selected by the Tigz Theatre team for further development with Tigz Theatre; and the full scale performance will be added to their season of shows during 2017.
Those pieces selected to be staged as part of “Scratch It!” will then be rehearsed and staged with 4 professional actors (2 Male and 2 Female) with direction from Tigz Theatre’s Artistic Director. The doubling of roles and gender blind casting are welcome for scratches of shows that would have a larger ensemble cast if selected for full production.
The initial “Scratch it!” performances for February will be staged between the 19th and 23rd February 2016 in the Bar at the London Welsh Centre, with technical and marketing support from Tigz Theatre.
What to submit: Writers are invited to be as bold and as ambitious as they like, but are advised that only four performers will be available for the initial performances which must be 20 minutes in length.
