From 1st – 5th July 2014, the Pensive Federation will run the third annual Significant Other Festival as 10 writers create their 10 minute masterpiece, joined by 10 directors and 20 actors – all in 10 days. 10 original works will be created around the theme “significant other” in addition this year they will add a specific ‘cover’, a blanket, duvet or sleeping bag etc. to each piece as an extra stimulus. The festival will provide each participant with an opportunity to challenge themselves and their techniques and work collaboratively under a short and impending timeline. As with last year’s festival one team will work with composers to create a new 10 minute musical.
How it works: If you are chosen for the project, you will be asked to write a 10 minute play for 2 actors in the course of 5 days (21st June – 25th June 2014). The theme is the “significant other” however there will be other elements and limitations which will be allocated at the Inspiration Session; this will also be when you are assigned your ‘cover’. The play must be written for 2 actors – gender and age will be determined at the Inspiration Session on Friday 20th June. During the 5 days of writing, you will be asked to submit your writing as you proceed. Please note that there will be lots of feedback and dramaturgy from the producers to support your process. If you are interested on working on the musical piece please also indicate this in your application.
How to apply: To apply, please download an application and equal opportunities form from their website. Save your application form as a Doc with your full name as the file name (ie Surname_First Name) and similarly for your equal opportunities form as Surname_First Name_equal.
You must also supply an excerpt of a piece of your writing (plays are preferred, maximum 4 pages) as well as a cover letter/statement (maximum 1 page) with details as to why you would like to be involved and if you have any previous theatrical experience. Please email this to info@pensivefederation.com with your name and the post you’re applying for in the subject line. (eg: John Smith_WRITER).
